Short Cave Tour

This tour is fun and accesible for most people. The tour starts from the main house of the Fljótstunga farm. You follow the guide in your own car (Fljótstunga maintains the road to be suitable for all types of cars) for a 5 min. drive. You then arrive at the parking lot from where you get your helmets, flash lights and follow the guide on a 5 min. walk over the lava field to the large entrance of the wild cave. After this the trip goes down the cave, then through the gate and into the first main opening of the cave where there are beautiful ice formations in the lava and an archeological space where viking age remains where found. During this tour you can learn about the lava caves, the stages and history of Viðgelmir, the ice elves that live in the ice stalagmites during winter as well as how to help with the preservation of the lava cave.

Details:

This tour is for children that are 8 years and older and elderly people in fit condition. Warm clothes are advised and hiking boots and good gloves are recommended. Helmets and flashlights are included in the tour.
