Glaciers

Langjökull glacier is Iceland's second largest glacier. It is surrounded by other smaller glaciers, equally spectacular though, like Eiríksjökull glacier which name comes from the viking age and certain viking that died at the top of the glacier.Langjökull glacier

From the Farm it is possible to drive to Langjökull and arrive to the very root of the glacier in only 30 min. It is also possible to make a day hike to the top of Eiríksjökull and admire the amazing view of a large part of the country.

There are several companies operating tours to Langjökull glacier such as the Ice Explorer, that will take you on a monster vehicle ride up to the top of the glacier, and Dogsledding Iceland which will give you a chance to explore the glacier sitting behind the pack of sled dogs.

Dogsledding Iceland

At the end of the summer (2011) we in Fljótstunga went to visit our friends on Langjökull glacier, Siggi and Klara, who run the dogsledding company on the glacier. We went with them on a midnight tour on the glacier and upon return there was a great amount of hugging and playing with the Greenland huskies they have.
